Biography
Domagoj Ivanovic was born in Zagreb, Croatia where he began studying violin at the age of seven. During his studies he was the recipient of numerous prizes and awards in violin competitions at the national and international level, the most important being First Prize in the National Violin competition and First Prize in the National Chamber Music competition. He received his Bachelor’s degree in violin performance in 2001 from the Music Academy in Zagreb in the studio of Silvano Kuzmin. Mr. Ivanovic appeared as a soloist with the Zagreb Philharmonic orchestra, performing the Sibelius Violin Concerto and with the Miami Symphony orchestra, performing Beethoven’s Romanze in F major and Vivaldi's Winter. Described as a player with “clear technique and great sensitivity” by El Nuevo Herald, he has performed in Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Austria, France, Spain, Hungary, Canada, and the United States. In 2003 he received his Masters degree from the University of Miami Frost School of Music in the studio of Robert Rozek. During his education he has also worked with such renowned teachers as G.Zhislin, A. Kouchner, A. Kiss, K . Maetzel, and S. Chepaitis. In addition to serving as an Assistant Concertmaster for the Miami Symphony Orchestra (2003-2006), Mr. Ivanovic completed his studies at the University of Miami, graduating with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Violin Performance in the studio of Scott Flavin. His playing can be heard on the Croatian National Radio, as well as in the University of Miami's production of Luigi Mancinelli's Paolo et Francesca, released by Albany Records in 2005. Also, as a former member of the Ibis Camerata, he can be heard on a new album released by Albany records in 2006 titled Glisten, featuring new music composed by the University of Miami Faculty composers. On a more personal note, he just finished his first own recording of Paganini's 24 Caprices for violin solo. It can be heard on the Recordings page of this website. Currently residing in Vancouver, Canada with his wife, Melina, he is a member of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and an extra musician with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He also maintains a private teaching studio that comprises students of various ages and levels.
